XML export from ORM Source model for model specs interchange (XML/XMI?)
Posted: 11 Jun 05 10:04 AM Modified By Guennadi V. Vanine on 6/11/2005 11:21:17 AM)

Can you share examples/cases/projects of employing OT functionality of XML export of the ORM Source Model meta-model information?

Where it can be used (more)? Which tools support/can use/import such export?

Does this export employ XML/XMI format, i.e. format in which all other UML-conformant and UML-compliant tools can export and import models?

People use it to create thier own reports (e.g. html-based) and to import it into other tools such as Requisite Pro. I've released 3: one that produces a basic HTML report, one that converts the ER model into an XML Schema document, and a third that converts the ER model into SQL DDL.

It can be the source of any import so long as you write XSLT (or use other means) to convert the OT XML into a format used by the destination (e.g. XMI).

Thanks a lot, it was really written in OT Release Notes, but I need to be repeated/cross-confirmed many times and from various sources ;'-)))

"and a third that converts the ER model into SQL DDL"
I thought it was being done by VEA(?). What was your inconvenience with it?

It is done by VEA.

Visio Professional, however, supports ER modeling (but not ORM) except it has no forward engineering functionality. Thus, that XSLT was created to users could at least create a basic schema. It's been quite popular.
