Database Model Diagrams to mysql SQL code
Posted: 19 Aug 07 4:48 AM

Hi,

It is a week now that I try to understand if there is a way to turn a Database Model Diagrams into a SQL code that is good for mysql 5. I only start with database modelling, and apart of creating tables with phpmyamin I know not much...

I have Visio Professional 2003, and I installed your "OrthogonalToolbox1_5.zip". It worked, and with "OTERtoSQL.xslt" I managed to create a SQL code, but when trying to run it on mysql, via phpmyadmin, it gave a lot of errors...

I also tried "modelright.com" and "mentattech.com". In vain. I can't understand whether they do support such scenario or not.

Does it exist at all?

Regards,

The sample XSLT provided is for MS SQL Server so I imagine there are a few syntax differences with mysql. You would have to adjust the XSLT to produce SQL DDL that is mysql-compliant.

Do you meant generating MySQL 5.x SQL code from your diagram? If yes, of course, Modelright 2 does the job...

You can use MR2 to create a diagarm, and then generate the SQL and then even execute that SQL in your database. Also, it can reverse engineer an existing database into a new model, if you need.

Just to make sure... you need to use the latest MR 2 version (currently in beta). Also, if you use Vista as you operating system, then you need to use the latest build - 2014. Earlier releases had an issue with running on Vista.

Contact the support, if you have issues (or need to figure out how to use it), and they will help you out.

Good luck.
